Cheatham County commission approves budget moves, zoning recommendation and mayoral contracts

Cheatham County’s Legislative Body concluded a brief Nov. 20 meeting in Ashland City with unanimous votes on a slate of routine and administrative items, including two budget amendments, a recommendation to the Planning Commission on zoning, mayoral contract authorizations, and a resolution recognizing a residential road repair contribution.
Public comment: Misty Busbin (5th district) spoke in support of allowing metal Connex storage containers during the public forum. The commission later approved a motion to submit a recommendation to the Planning Commission to amend the county zoning resolution to allow metal Connex storage containers as accessory structures; the vote was 10–0 with two commissioners absent (motion by Diana Lovell; seconded by Chris Gilmore).
Budget votes: The commission approved a Highway/Public Works amendment (transfer of $1,054.22 within Highway Administration for office equipment) following Budget Committee recommendation (motion by Walter Weakley; second Bill Powers), roll call 10–0 (2 absent). It also approved a Central Cafeteria Fund amendment transferring $733,000 from fund balance to purchase walk‑in coolers, serving‑line equipment and a dish machine for several schools; that motion was by Diana Lovell, seconded by Mike Breedlove and passed by roll call 10–0 (2 absent).
Mayor’s items and contracts: The commission approved the mayor’s signatures on an updated lease with New China Star at Sycamore Square, a Bell & Associates Construction contract amendment to include courtroom work (also addressed in a separate change‑order filing), and a Life Check Systems renewal agreement; those items were approved together by roll call 10–0 (2 absent). The Life Check renewal packet included a three‑year term starting Oct. 20, 2023, a monthly base fee of $525 ($6,300 annually), and data‑retention and device pricing terms.
Recognition and capital improvements: The commission unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing David Ingram and the Golf Club of Tennessee for work coordinating and funding repairs to South Harpeth Road; packet language states $525,000 was paid for road and drainage repairs. The Capital Improvements committee’s recommendation to buy and install a locking rack for the courtroom AV system ($6,756.99) was approved by roll call 10–0 (2 absent). The consent calendar approving notary applications and routine items passed by voice vote.
