Mayor’s package: grants, interlocal inspection pacts, vendor agreements and a $25,000 Pizza Hut settlement approved

Cheatham County commissioners on Sept. 18 approved a package of mayoral items that included state safety grants, interlocal agreements, contracts and a settlement related to Sycamore Square.
Mayor Kerry McCarver presented the items, which the commission approved on a single roll-call package vote. Among approvals: the county will accept a $20,000 Tennessee Highway Safety Office grant for a network coordinator program and a separate $65,000 grant for enforcement of Tennessee DUI laws; both grants are intended to support sheriff’s office traffic safety activities and require periodic claims and reporting to the state. The commission also approved the County’s Vendor Service Agreement with American Financial Credit Services to pursue delinquent personal property tax accounts and an MOU with Bethel University to extend reduced tuition to partner employees.
Two interlocal agreements were approved for the county to provide building inspection services to the towns of Pegram and Kingston Springs under terms that set inspection fees and administrative processes. The commission also approved a lease for the Cheatham County Chamber to occupy office space at Sycamore Square under an office-sharing agreement with Economic & Community Development (ECD).
Separately, the commission approved accepting a $25,000 settlement from Pizza Hut in lieu of restoring a leased Sycamore Square space to county occupancy.
Why it matters: The state grants provide reimbursement funding for traffic safety projects administered by the Sheriff’s Office, interlocal inspection agreements expand county services for municipalities, and the vendor agreement aims to increase county revenue collection. The Pizza Hut settlement and Chamber lease address disposition and use of County-owned commercial space.
