Cheatham County approves two zoning changes, passes budget amendments and several capital projects

Cheatham County commissioners approved two advertised zone changes and a series of county budget amendments and capital projects at their May 15 meeting in Ashland City.
The body voted unanimously to rezone Map 21, Parcel 99 (2706 Longstreet Avenue) from Agriculture to R1 and to rezone Map 63, Parcel 13.06 (1610 Little Marrowbone Road) from Agriculture to R1. The motions to approve the two zone changes passed by roll call vote, 11–0 with one commissioner absent.
Budget Committee chair and Commissioner Bill Powers, joined by Director of Accounts Sandrine Batts, presented a multi-department package of County General Fund amendments covering sheriff overtime and equipment, emergency management (including FEMA and Homeland Security grant adjustments), IT equipment replacements, payroll transfers for the Election Commission and EMS, and other line-item moves. Commissioners approved the County General Fund package by roll call (final recorded outcome: 9 Yes, 0 No, 1 Absent, 2 Abstain). Budget changes for Solid Waste/Sanitation, General Capital Projects and Other Capital Projects–Vehicles also passed (each by roll call, generally 11–0 with one absence).
On capital projects, commissioners approved a Denney Mechanical bid of $8,095.04 to replace an existing two-zone ductless split system at the courthouse with new Mitsubishi units, and authorized a new Building Maintenance facility (estimated not to exceed $350,000) to replace a storage building on Jail Alley. The body also authorized a 30-by-40-foot open-roof pavilion at Sycamore Square, not to exceed $30,000, for community uses such as a farmers market. Each of those motions passed by roll call vote.
The meeting also included routine business: the surplus of a totaled 2020 Chevrolet Equinox (Animal Control) was authorized for disposal and sale proceeds to be deposited to the County General Fund; a slate of notary appointments was approved; and County Mayor Kerry McCarver requested—and received—approval to sign several contracts and agreements (see separate item on mayoral signings).
The meeting opened with a brief public forum and a special recognition: McCarver presented an award honoring Emily Williams as Cheatham County's first female Eagle Scout, with Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter representatives presenting a certificate and badge.
The Legislative Body adjourned at 6:57 p.m.
