Cheatham County approves budget amendments, awards jail construction manager contract and signs off on courthouse restoration

Cheatham County commissioners approved a package of budget amendments and several contracts during their Feb. 27 regular meeting in Ashland City.
The Budget Committee presented and the body adopted a series of amendments affecting the County General Fund and multiple capital funds. Notable items recorded in the minutes include transfers and authorizations for ambulance/EMS lines, rural fire tax distributions, sheriff equipment, a $107,652 allocation for Senior Citizens Assistance, and transfers totaling $1,500,000 to education capital projects for textbooks and other school capital needs. The Central Cafeteria Fund authorized $77,883.96 to purchase nutrition tables for schools. Nearly all budget motions passed by unanimous roll-call votes (12–0) as recorded in the minutes.
The commission approved a courthouse brick-restoration contract and authorized the mayor to sign the agreement not to exceed $215,000 pending County Attorney approval; the packet included a bid from Mid South Restorations quoting $207,972. County Attorney Michael Bligh also presented the Construction Manager contract for the county jail project with Bell Construction; that contract passed by roll call 11 Yes, 1 No (James Hedgepath cast the lone No vote). The minutes also record the mayor's authorization to sign a BadgePass ONE subscription agreement (roll call 12–0) and the surplus of an older Ford ambulance to be sold on GovDeals.
What happens next: Budget amendments will be implemented in the county accounting system; building and procurement staff will finalize contracts and proceed with vendor onboarding and project scheduling. The jail project will move forward under the selected construction manager, subject to execution of final contract documents and any required surety/insurance paperwork.
