Residents urge Snowflake council to add West Gardens access and fix stormwater basins

Residents used the public-comment period at the Oct. 1 Snowflake Town Council meeting to press for improved neighborhood access and infrastructure repairs.

Matthew Bloomfield told the council he distributed information outlining three options to create another access into West Gardens: keep the existing access on Lumber Lane, widen the current access, or construct a new crossing over the railroad. Bloomfield’s presentation prompted council acknowledgement of the access issue; Brian Richards, town manager, later described the approved parcel exchange as one step toward additional east access into 2nd E, but Richards said surveys and a public hearing are required before the exchange is finalized.

Lowry Flake asked for weed control at 3rd W/3rd N and requested improvements to stormwater catch basins at 2nd and 3rd W. No immediate council action was recorded on those specific maintenance requests during the Oct. 1 meeting; Public Works responsibilities and scheduling were discussed elsewhere in the agenda.

Cindy, speaking for the Senior Center, invited council members to help serve the Thanksgiving lunch on Nov. 21 and said the center plans to sell tables again this year to raise extra funding; she thanked both towns for their support.

Next steps tied to the access concerns include the parcel exchange approved by council that staff said will require surveys and a subsequent public hearing before any land conveyance occurs. Requests for weed control and stormwater-basin work were raised as maintenance items for staff follow-up but were not formally scheduled or acted on during the meeting.
