The Sevier County Commission on April 15 unanimously appointed Melissa Godfrey to fill the vacant District 9, Seat B, following a recommendation from the commission’s Steering Committee.
The seat was filled under the authority of Tennessee Code Annotated Title V to serve until certification of the special election scheduled for Aug. 1, 2024. The commission moved to nominate Godfrey and fill the seat; Commissioner Fred Atchley made the motion, and C. Rauhuff seconded. The nomination passed by voice vote, 25-0.
Commission documents note the appointment was made to replace the late Chuck Godfrey. No public comment or competing nominees were recorded during the agenda item. The appointee will serve until the special-election results are certified later this year.
