Educator urges Sevier County to expand local services for adults with disabilities

Educator Jennifer Jeffers spoke during public comment at the Sevier County Commission meeting on Aug. 19 about adults with disabilities who have aged out of local programs and must relocate to areas with services. She said the county is underserving these adults and urged elected officials to provide more local resources so they can remain in the community, participate in the workforce and pursue personal goals.
Jeffers noted that TennCare can provide grant funding for programs if the community has the necessary space to operate them. Her remarks were recognized by a motion from Commissioner Fred Atchley and seconded by Commissioner Kent Woods; Jeffers made the appeal during the public-comment portion of the meeting.
