Sevier County commissioners elect Larry Waters chairman, approve minutes and notaries

Mayor Larry Waters was elected chairman of the Sevier County Board of Commissioners at the Sept. 16 meeting after Commissioner J. Parton nominated him and members moved to close nominations. The election concluded by voice vote with 25 in favor and no recorded absences.
Commissioners also elected Warren Hurst as chairman pro tempore following a nomination by K. Woods and a motion to close nominations; that vote likewise passed by voice. The board approved the Aug. 19, 2024 minutes (motion by Carrol Rauhuff) and accepted commission committee reports (motion by Mike Hillard); both actions passed on roll call votes recorded in the minutes.
The commission approved 28 notary applicants by roll call vote. The meeting included routine procedural business and closed with an adjournment motion by A. Foster, seconded by B. Hendrick, which passed by voice vote.
The actions taken at the meeting are procedural and set leadership and administrative approvals for the 2024–2025 term. No policy changes were adopted in these votes.
