Sevier County commissioners re-elect Larry Waters as chairman, install Warren Hurst as pro tem; approve notaries and committee appointments

Commissioner Michael Chambers nominated Warren Hurst for chairman pro tem; that nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote, 24 Yes, 0 No, 1 Absent.
The board also adopted a proclamation honoring Jonas Smelcer for his more than four decades of service. Chairman Larry Waters remarked on his long friendship with Mr. Smelcer and “appreciates Mr. Smelcer’s service to Sevier County.” Mr. Smelcer thanked the commission and said the county’s roads had improved markedly under his office, noting work to move roughly "from the six hundred (600) miles of gravel roads to over a thousand (1,000) miles of paved road." The proclamation was adopted by roll call, 24 Yes, 0 No, 1 Absent.
Other routine actions included approval of minutes and committee reports (each passed by roll call, 24 Yes, 0 No, 1 Absent) and confirmation of commissioner appointments to committees (motion by Tommy Watts; passed 24 Yes).
