Franklin County committee forwards nuisance-law resolution to full commission after brief presentation

Chairman David Eldridge presided over a June 6 meeting of the Franklin County Legislative Committee where members voted to forward a proposed Nuisance Law resolution to the full County Commission.
Mayor Chris Guess presented the proposal and told the committee that the county’s nuisance codes are posted on the Franklin County website for public review. “These codes are not a HOA,” Guess said, and certain activities such as farming are exempt. “The Nuisance Laws are for health and safety of our community,” he added.
Chair members expressed differing views on the proposal and recommended that the full County Commission make the final determination. After discussion, Tyler Bauer moved and Glenn Summers seconded a motion to approve and move the resolution to the full commission; the motion carried 4–1 (Ayes: Bauer, Summers, Benere, Eldridge; Nay: Schultz).
Chairman Eldridge opened the public comment period; no members of the public spoke.
The committee did not adopt the resolution itself; forwarding it means the County Commission will consider it at a later public meeting. The committee’s next Legislative meeting is scheduled for July 6, 2023.
