Dickson County Commission sets local speed limits, donates retired sheriff's vehicle and adopts five-year reappraisal cycle

At its Feb. 20 meeting the Dickson County Commission unanimously approved new speed limits on Earl Leach Road, Cinder Road and Old Highway 48, authorized donation of a retired 2014 Ford Taurus to Dickson County Fire & Rescue, adopted a continuous five-year property reappraisal cycle and approved routine appointments and financial reports.
The Dickson County Commission met Feb. 20, 2024, in Charlotte and by unanimous voice votes approved a package of routine measures affecting local roads, county fleet resources and property assessment procedures.
Commissioners voted to reduce the speed limit on Earl Leach Road to 20 mph and to set Cinder Road at 20 mph. The commission also set the speed limit on Old Highway 48 at 35 mph. Each resolution was introduced as a separate motion and passed by unanimous aye voice vote.
The commission authorized Resolution 02-2024-03 to donate a retired 2014 Ford Taurus (VIN 1FAHP2MK0EG166240), with more than 170,000 miles, from the Sheriff's Department to Dickson County Fire & Rescue to be used in county services. Commissioner Jody Britt moved the donation and Commissioner Becky Spicer seconded; the measure passed unanimously.
Commissioners approved Resolution 02-2024-04 to adopt a continuous five-year reappraisal cycle for county property assessments. Commissioner Danny Williams moved the reappraisal resolution and Commissioner Carl Buckner seconded; the motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
The body also approved the Quarterly Financial Reports for all funds except schools, reappointed Margaret Martindale, Sara-Ann Jones and Chip Miller to the Sheriff's Civil Service Board, and accepted a slate of notaries submitted for approval. All motions were approved by unanimous voice votes.
A pending matter referred to as Project Vulcan was not decided at the meeting and was moved to the March 18 agenda for further consideration. Several zoning and land-use items that were the subject of public hearings — including R-3 Residential District revisions, drive-through queuing requirements and renewable energy facility provisions — drew no public speakers and were moved for further review at the March meeting; a landscaping and buffer strips amendment was removed from the agenda for rewording and will be presented later.
The commission announced its next regular meeting for Monday, March 18, 2024, at 7:00 P.M. in the Buford L. (Booty) Reed Jr. County Commission Chamber and adjourned at 7:21 P.M.
