Dickson County Commission approves budget amendments, property deals and grant application; weight-limit study fails

At its Nov. 17 meeting the Dickson County Commission unanimously approved school budget amendments, a $75,000 land purchase for a convenience center, a property gift to the Water Authority and a historic development grant application, while a motion to obtain a weight-limit study failed 5–7.
The Dickson County Commission on Nov. 17 approved a slate of routine and substantive measures and rejected a proposed weight-limit study on county roads.
Resolutions approved by unanimous aye voice votes included Resolution 11-2025-01, authorizing amendments to school-related budgets (General Purpose School Fund Fund 141, Federal Projects Fund 142, Central Cafeteria Fund 143, Capital Project Fund 177); Resolution 11-2025-03, authorizing the County Mayor to deed and gift certain county-owned property along Hoover Road to the Water Authority of Dickson County; and Resolution 11-2025-04, authorizing purchase of 3.43 acres on Pond Circle Road for $75,000 to be used as a convenience center (motion by Commissioner Randy Simpkins, second by Commissioner Jody Britt).
The commission also approved setting a 30 mph speed limit on Willow Branch Road (Resolution 11-2025-05; motion by Commissioner Danny Williams, second by Commissioner Randy Simpkins) and authorized applying for a Historic Development Grant tied to improvements to the Charlotte Historic Courthouse (Resolution 11-2025-06). The minutes describe the historic project as a $1,000,000 effort with a $500,000 grant request and a 50/50 county match structure; the county is to fund costs up front and be reimbursed for half of eligible costs if the grant is awarded.
In contrast, Resolution 11-2025-02 — to authorize the county to obtain a weight-limit study on certain county roads — failed on a 5–7 vote after a motion by Commissioner Danny Williams and a second by Commissioner Rusty Grove. The minutes report “Five (5) aye and Seven (7) Nay” votes; no roll-call names are recorded for that tally in the minutes.
Other items: commissioners accepted the quarterly financial reports for all funds (except schools) and for school funds (both motions recorded as unanimous aye voice votes), approved a 2026 holiday schedule, and approved a slate of notaries. The commission received the Annual Financial Reports from fee offices as required by Tennessee Code Annotated Section 5-8-505 and Section 67-5-1902.
The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m. The commission’s next regular session is scheduled for Dec. 15, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. in the Buford L. (Booty) Reed Jr. County Commission Chamber in Charlotte.
