Claiborne EMS asks commission to press state for more EMT training sites

Daniel McCreary, EMS Director at Claiborne Medical Center, told the Claiborne County Commission that the county faces an EMT staffing shortage and can conduct initial training locally but is constrained by a Tennessee Department of Health limit on the number of concurrent initial EMT courses statewide.
McCreary said Claiborne EMS is currently 16th on the TDH list of training sites and that TDH permits only 15 concurrent initial-course sites. Commissioners voted unanimously (21–0) to set aside rules and asked the county mayor to draft a letter to state legislators urging TDH to increase the number of approved concurrent training sites so Claiborne can host additional classes.
