Claiborne County approves $60,000 purchase of Tazewell corner lot for future county projects

On Dec. 21, 2020 the Claiborne County Commission approved Resolution 2020-110 authorizing purchase of a corner lot at 207 Montgomery St., Tazewell, for a conditional $60,000. The acquisition was authorized to be funded from the county’s undesignated fund balance; the county attorney will handle the legal paperwork.
Commissioner Juanita Honeycutt moved adoption of the resolution and Commissioner James Hatmaker seconded. Commissioner Steve Mason spoke to the commission to affirm that he has no personal benefit or contractual interest in the purchase and that his assistance on the transaction is on behalf of the county. The voice vote/roll call was recorded as 20–0 in favor.
The resolution says the property is intended for future use for more than one building project; no additional project details, redevelopment timeline or budgetary breakdown were specified in the meeting minutes.
