Commission withdraws property purchase item; approves road truck purchase and work-release appointment

A proposed use of a $189,562 direct appropriation grant to buy the Pump Springs Baptist Church property drew debate at the Aug. 17 meeting. Commissioner Steve Mason moved to redirect some or all of the grant toward the Springdale Elementary School sewer system; the amendment was amended to request up to $60,000 in reimbursement to the school and then failed on a 8–13 roll-call vote. Following further discussion Commissioner Whitt Shuford withdrew the original motion to approve the property purchase and the item was removed from the agenda to allow more time for review.
Shortly after, the commission approved a request to issue a purchase order for a Road Department truck (Item 7A). Commissioner David Mundy moved the purchase-order request and the measure passed by roll-call vote, 21–0.
The commission also approved Resolution 2020-071 appointing Kim Mabe to the Work Release Commission to replace a member who is no longer employed by the county. Commissioner Zach Mullins moved the appointment; the motion carried by aye vote and the resolution corrects the member's last name to 'Mabe.'
The meeting adjourned following these items.
