Planning Commission tables Sley’s Boathouse conditional use hearing to Jan. 15

The Northumberland County Planning Commission voted on Dec. 18 to table the public hearing for the Sley’s Boathouse Conditional Use Permit until the commission’s Jan. 15, 2026 meeting.
County Planner Stuart McKenzie said the applicant’s wetland agent emailed commissioners requesting the hearing be postponed; Mr. McKinley moved to table the hearing and Mrs. Diggs seconded. The motion passed with nine Aye votes and one Nay.
Commissioner Patrick O’Brien voted Nay and said he found the wetland agent’s email presumptuous because only the Planning Commission has authority to table an agenda item. The recorded roll call for the vote showed Chris Cralle, Roger McKinley, Vivian Diggs, Allen Garland, Garfield Parker, John Kost, Heidi Wilkins‑Corey, James Michel and Charles Williams voting Aye; O’Brien voted Nay; Richard Haynie was recorded as absent.
The commission did not take further action on the Conditional Use Permit on Dec. 18; the matter will return to the Planning Commission on Jan. 15, 2026 for the rescheduled public hearing.
