At its July 9 meeting the Industrial Development Authority of Tazewell County authorized several payments and project actions arising from an executive-session review and subsequent open-session votes.
The board authorized payment of a Magnolia River 60% design invoice for $40,000 and ratified a prior poll vote to hire Country Roads Mobile Locksmith LLC for the Workforce Building, approving payment not to exceed $700. Economic Development Director Tim Danielson said the Magnolia design work for the Bluestone natural gas extension will be fully reimbursed by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) and the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority (VCEDA) and that he has submitted paperwork for $78,000 in reimbursements related to the Bluestone project.
The Authority ratified entry into an option agreement with Harman Cattle & Company for parcels listed as #124A 25A and 124A 0025E related to Helping Hand (Fairview); the motion carried with one abstention by Vice-Chairman Darrell Addison. The minutes record the action as approved and separately note Addison abstained; the board certified the executive session in open session under Code of Virginia §2.2-3711.
Board members tasked staff with drafting an incentives-eligibility formula: Director Tim Danielson and Treasurer Melanie Protti-Lawrence will develop guidelines the board can review. The board authorized staff and counsel to proceed with negotiations on Project Clover, approving negotiations up to a $15,000 loan for Bee Noodle'd with a six-month deferral period and potential partial forgiveness, as recommended by Mr. Danielson.
The Authority approved a Cox Security quote for Raven Elementary School for security improvements not to exceed $13,000. The board also approved a letter of support for an AMLER application on behalf of Project Resort; that motion passed 5–1 with Mr. Curtis Breeding voting no.
The meeting closed with a brief discussion of Virginia Department of Transportation entryway approvals and adjourned. The next regular meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Aug. 13, 2025.
