Bland County supervisors approve school requisition, grants, purchases and petition court for reassessment extension

The Bland County Board of Supervisors approved a package of routine appropriations, grants and administrative actions during its Nov. 25 meeting at the Bland County Courthouse.
On the consent agenda, the board approved payroll and vendor payments and appropriated the Bland County School Board’s December 2025 requisition in the amount of $1,128,966.42. The consent motion was made by Supervisor Stephen Kelley and seconded by Supervisor Keith Costello; the board recorded a unanimous roll call vote.
Other approvals included appropriating a $20,000 Mount Rogers Planning District Commission grant for the Rocky Gap Wastewater Extension study (motion by Keith Costello, second by Patrick Groseclose); appropriating $18,278 from Community Development to purchase a 2020 Chevrolet Colorado maintenance vehicle (motion by Patrick Groseclose, second by Keith Costello); and declaring surplus a 2011 Ford Explorer, a 2014 Ford Taurus, a 2012 Dodge Charger and various office equipment (motion by Keith Costello, second by Patrick Groseclose).
The board also approved a $12,256 appropriation to cover the VAcorp FY25 Workers’ Compensation audit and accepted a $9,000 Virginia State Police camera grant to purchase Flock cameras; both motions carried unanimously. Supervisors approved a $1,500 appropriation for a Community Development holiday luncheon and a $400 allocation from the Supervisors’ Fund for 4‑H Day at the Capitol.
Separately, the board authorized the County Attorney to petition the court for a two‑month and three‑week extension for the 2026 general reassessment; the motion was made by Supervisor Stephen Kelley and seconded by Supervisor Patrick Groseclose and recorded as approved. The meeting adjourned after completion of the listed business.
