Lunenburg County Electoral Board adjudicates provisional ballots, certifies June 18 primary abstracts

The Lunenburg County Electoral Board met Monday and adjudicated provisional ballots from the June 18 dual primary before certifying vote abstracts for three races, Chairman Donna Dagner said.

The board convened at 9:30 a.m. with all members present, along with the General Registrar, the Lunenburg County Republican Party chairman and authorized representatives for the Good and McGuire campaigns. The board canvassed Central Absentee Precinct post‑election valid mail‑in absentee ballots; the General Registrar transmitted those totals electronically to the State Department of Elections.

A motion to leave the public session so members could adjudicate and count provisional ballots was made and passed. The board carried out the adjudication and counting in closed session “in accordance with provisions of Code of Virginia 24.2‑653.01(B),” the minutes state. The board later moved and passed to return to public session, and by signing the meeting document certified that the only business conducted outside public session was the adjudication and counting of provisional ballots.

The vote totals from provisional ballots were shared with the campaign representatives and transmitted by the General Registrar to the State. After the state accepted the canvass, the Registrar printed abstracts of votes for the three races on the ballot. Board members signed the original abstracts; the Secretary signed and sealed copies to certify them as true copies for the proper parties.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:25 a.m. The minutes list Chairman Donna Dagner, Vice Chairman David Dalton Chan and Secretary Oliver Wright as signatories.
