Planning commission delays recommendation on Parrish View Farms event venue

The Lunenburg County Planning Commission on Oct. 5 deferred action on CUP 5-23, an application from Parrish View Farms to operate an event venue on two parcels at 2571 Dundas Road.
Chairman Buck Tharpe read the application as part of the public record: “CUP 5-23: Conditional Use Permit for Parrish View Farms to operate an Event Venue on tax parcels 049-0A-0-68 and 049-0A-0-69A, 2571 Dundas Road, Kenbridge, VA 23944, consisting of 73.06 acres in an A-1 Agricultural zone.” Applicant Jeff Parrish told the commission the property has operated as a pumpkin patch for 15 years and was used for two family weddings; the venue would supplement ongoing agricultural uses rather than replace them.
Commissioners said they had received the staff report late and preferred additional time to review its contents. Chairman Tharpe moved to defer a recommendation until the commission’s November meeting; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Edward Pennington and passed on a roll-call vote, 4–3. Commissioners who voted to defer were Luther Drummond, Buck Tharpe, Edward Pennington and Tony Trent; Commissioners Brenda Jennings, Harry C. Garrett and Walter Thompson voted no.
The commission did not take final action on the permit; the item is scheduled to return for further consideration at the Nov. 2 meeting.
