Lunenburg County Planning Commission appoints officers, adopts by-laws and hears attorney update

At its Jan. 4 meeting the Lunenburg County Planning Commission appointed James Tharpe as chairman and Commissioner Thompson as vice-chair, adopted amended by-laws, approved the Dec. 7 minutes, received a staff report, and heard an attorney update on a study/pause tied to the Joint Comprehensive Plan Update.
The Lunenburg County Planning Commission convened Jan. 4 in the 2nd-floor courtroom of the Lunenburg Courts Building. Mrs. Taylor N. King called the meeting to order; commissioners appointed James Tharpe chairman and Commissioner Thompson vice-chair through unanimous votes.
The commission adopted amended by-laws without discussion and approved the minutes of the Dec. 7, 2023 meeting. The Director of Planning and Economic Development provided the monthly report; commissioners indicated no questions and acknowledged it was in their packet.
During Other Business, Assistant County Attorney Drew DiStanislao provided an update on the committee's approach to a study/pause; DiStanislao said the proposed amendments will coincide with the Joint Comprehensive Plan Update. Chairman Tharpe also provided information regarding the Rural Solar Development Coalition's activities and information the commission had received.
The commission announced its next regular meeting for Feb. 1, 2024 (time subject to change depending on agenda length), and adjourned on a motion by Commissioner Thompson.
