The Lunenburg County Planning Commission on March 7 unanimously recommended approval of Conditional Use Permit (CUP 1-24) for Virginia Shed Company, LLC to operate a retail store and shop selling portable storage sheds and metal carports at 134 Patrick Henry Highway in Keysville.
Applicant Kent Weaver told the commission the business model is similar to a prior permit (Stringfellow CUP) and that Old Hickory Buildings will purchase the property contingent on CUP approval; sheds would be supplied through Old Hickory Buildings and metal carports through another supplier. The commission entered the public hearing and Mr. Weaver described anticipated operations.
Recommended conditions read into the record include compliance with fire and building codes, sufficient on-site parking that will not impede traffic on Hwy 360, adherence to the Lunenburg County Noise Ordinance, compliance with A-1 district sign and setback regulations (no portable storage sheds or metal carports placed beyond the existing structure toward Hwy 360), and regular trash containment and removal. The clerk requested an added condition for annual reporting to the Commissioner of Revenue’s Office; the commission approved that amendment.
On a motion by Commissioner Drummond, seconded by Commissioner Trent, the commission unanimously approved the recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. The CUP is limited to the applicant and does not run with the property; compliance with federal, state and local regulations was required as a condition.
