The Lunenburg County Electoral Board met May 6 and received routine updates on registration, polling locations and election staffing.
Chair Donna Dagner called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. and noted board members and the General Registrar were present. The board reviewed and signed the minutes of the previous meeting.
The General Registrar reported the number of registered voters in the county is 8,173, an increase of 14 from the previous month. The registrar also said the county remains under consideration for a Phase 2 SLCGP cybersecurity grant; if awarded, the grant would be funded sometime this summer.
The registrar reported that corrective action to relocate polling place 101 has been completed. The registrar also said a judge has appointed Cheryl Berumen-Rivas to the District 7 school board to fill a vacancy; the appointment was reported to the board as an administrative update.
On election operations, the registrar reported on early voting and absentee ballots mailed out and outlined general preparations for election day; the minutes did not include specific ballot counts. The board was told the filing deadline for the Nov. 4 general election will be 7:00 p.m. on June 17.
The registrar said work is progressing to identify emergency alternative polling places; the Deputy Registrar is leading that effort and will report back at the next meeting. The board received agendas for upcoming training events and members volunteered to present on various topics. Chair Dagner reviewed proposed election officer assignments for the upcoming primary.
The Secretary, Oliver Wright, said useful items will be removed from a county storage building next week; the registrar said the county will remove the remaining discarded items and remove the building. The meeting adjourned at 5:05 p.m.
The board did not record a formal vote on the items reported in these minutes; any required votes or further actions are expected to appear on future agendas.
