Lunenburg County Electoral Board schedules Nov. 12 canvass, reviews polling plans and flags campaign finance reporting issues

Chairman Donna Dagner called the Lunenburg County Electoral Board to order at 4:00 p.m. on Sept. 2, 2025, with Vice Chairman David Dalton, Secretary Oliver Wright and the General Registrar present. The board signed routine birthday cards for election officials and reviewed and signed the minutes of the previous meeting.
The General Registrar reported that the county has received a cybersecurity grant and that the Board of Supervisors has accepted the grant on the board’s behalf. The registrar also confirmed that a handicapped accessibility survey of polling places was completed and reported before the applicable deadline.
The registrar said the Arrowhead Gun Club is considering whether to approve use of a larger space for its polling place; the club had not yet given a decision. The board was also told that the provisional meeting for provisional ballots, the final canvass of votes and the preparation of vote abstracts was postponed and rescheduled for Nov. 12, 2025, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Board members discussed staffing for polling places in the November election, adjusting assignments where possible to preserve party parity and to accommodate personal preferences. The board held a separate discussion about staffing for early voting and made preliminary adjustments to assignments for early voting poll workers.
The General Registrar delivered a comprehensive office report (a copy is on file in the Registrar’s office) and raised concerns about campaign finance reporting for several currently serving elected officials; the registrar said there are ongoing discussions with “Elect” about how to handle the reporting issues. No formal disciplinary action or vote was recorded in the minutes on that matter.
The registrar also reported that the Board of Supervisors approved the electoral board’s emergency polling place plan at its most recent meeting. The board adjourned at 5:25 p.m.
The board’s next procedural deadline is the Nov. 12 provisional meeting and canvass; the registrar’s office holds the detailed meeting report and associated documents.
