Lunenburg County Electoral Board notes early voting, receives cybersecurity grant and appoints election official

The Lunenburg County Electoral Board met Oct. 14 and reviewed recent voter-registration activity and early-voting turnout, received an update about a cybersecurity grant and appointed a new election official.
Chairman Donna Dagner opened the meeting at 4:07 p.m. and the Registrar reported on two recent registration drives: Central High School produced two new registrations, and Victoria Autumn Days produced four applications, two of which were from other jurisdictions and therefore not added to the county rolls. The Registrar also presented the county's September registered-voter report, showing a net increase of five voters to a total of 8,203.
Board members asked about early voting. The Registrar reported just over 800 ballots had been cast in early voting to date, including 91 votes recorded on the designated Sunday voting day.
The Registrar said a third installment of a cybersecurity grant had been received by the county; a full office report was made available at the Registrar's office, the board noted.
Operational preparations were addressed: the updated list of Election Day official assignments and materials and agenda for the final mass training were distributed to board members and staff.
The board moved into closed session to consider three items, including the possible removal of an election official under the personnel exemption in the Code of Virginia (§2.2-3711(A)(1)) and two matters involving ongoing legal investigations under the privacy exemption (§2.2-3711(A)(7)(c)). After the closed session the board returned to public session and members certified that only the matters listed for closed session were discussed; the certification was attested by board signatures.
Following the public-session reports, the Registrar presented the name Margie Ridley for appointment as an election official. A motion to appoint Ridley was made, seconded and approved; the Secretary signed the appointment letter.
The meeting adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
