Board notes campaign finance penalties were cleared and discusses delayed payments to election staff and vendors

At its Feb. 3 meeting the Lunenburg County Electoral Board recorded that candidates with outstanding campaign finance penalties resolved the issues and were granted forgiveness via State Board appeals; the board also discussed delayed payments to officers, staff and vendors and a county memo addressing the problem.
During Unfinished Business at the Feb. 3 meeting, the Lunenburg County Electoral Board recorded that candidates who previously had outstanding campaign finance penalties addressed the deficiencies and then pursued appeals with the State Board; those appeals resulted in forgiveness of the penalties.
Board members also discussed administrative concerns about delays in payments for Officers of Election, Electoral Board members, registrar office staff and some election-related vendors. The General Registrar reported on a meeting with the County Admin about the delays and referenced a county memo on the subject. No formal action or vote on remedies was recorded in the minutes.
The Registrar also told the board that financial arrangements are in place for members to attend the VEBA annual meeting in March and raised the proposed county travel, lodging, meals and expense reimbursement policy for discussion. Board members expressed support for the Rotary Club’s reactivation in the county and several indicated they would participate.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:45 PM. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 3 at 4:00 PM.
