The Lunenburg County Electoral Board on Feb. 3 accepted its proposed roster of Officers of Election for 2026 and voted to include pay increases for poll workers in its FY 2026–27 budget submission.
The General Registrar presented the proposed list of Officers of Election and a comparison chart of pay scales from seven neighboring counties. After discussion, the board moved to accept the list; the motion was seconded and approved. The Registrar will send notices to prospective election officials to be sworn in for 2026.
Board members then debated pay for election-day staff. Using the comparison chart as context, the board approved a motion to propose the following rates in the FY26/27 budget request: Election Official $185, Poll Chief $265 and Assistant Chief to remain $225. The motion was seconded and approved.
The payroll action was framed as a recommendation for the county’s upcoming budget submission rather than an immediate change to payroll; the board noted the FY26/27 budget request is due Feb. 13. The panel also reviewed and updated a duties matrix for board and registrar responsibilities for 2026.
The board adjourned at 6:45 PM; the Registrar and board will follow up with administrative steps to notify officers and include the pay proposal in the budget packet.
