Lunenburg schools get $415,600 in new grants; Board accepts Mental Health, Security and Title I awards

At the Nov. 13 meeting of the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors, school representative Jessica Nowlin reported an average daily membership (ADM) of 1,481—slightly below the 1,487 figure used in the adopted budget—and presented three budget supplement requests.
The Board unanimously accepted and appropriated a $300,000 Mental Health Grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia; the grant requires no additional local match. It also accepted $65,600 in FY26 School Security Equipment Grant funds to be used at the county’s four school buildings; that award requires a $16,400 local match, which Nowlin said is already included in the approved School Board budget. Finally, the Board accepted a $50,000 Title I 1003A School Improvement Grant, which requires no additional local match.
Supervisor T. Wayne Hoover moved to accept the Mental Health and School Security grants; Supervisor Frank W. Bacon seconded those motions. Supervisor Robert Zava moved to accept the Title I grant; Supervisor Edward Pennington seconded. All motions passed unanimously. The Board also approved the Abstract of Votes for the Nov. 4, 2025 General Election.
The grants are appropriation actions; the motions recorded at the meeting signify official acceptance of the funds and, where applicable, recognition of existing local matching commitments.
