At its Jan. 8 reorganizational meeting, the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors carried a slate of organizational and administrative actions.
The Board elected Alvester Edmonds as chair and Dr. Frank W. Bacon as vice-chair during the reorganizational portion of the meeting. It unanimously adopted the 2026 Invocation and Meeting Schedule, the Board’s Code of Ethics and Procedures, and Robert’s Rules of Order.
Administration and department updates included a report from VDOT, which noted completion of winter maintenance, collection of 734 bags of litter countywide and recent line painting on Route 49. The Board approved declaring a 2014 Jeep Compass surplus and authorized sale; proceeds will be applied to vehicle purchases or maintenance.
General Registrar Alissa Baldwin asked the Board to accept and appropriate a $7,440 cybersecurity grant to support remote network access; the Board unanimously approved and appointed her grant administrator. The Circuit Court Clerk’s Office released $223,627.09 in excess funds to the County across several case numbers; the Board accepted the disbursement into the General Fund.
Sheriff Townsend requested that carryover surplus funds be used to purchase at least one fully equipped patrol vehicle; he said outfitting costs run about $15,000 and a fully equipped unit costs around $60,000. The Board authorized the vehicle purchase and increased the Sheriff’s capital expense budget accordingly. The Board also approved transferring $3,253.76 from vacancy savings to the Sheriff Office’s Office Supplies line item.
Administrator Tracy M. Gee requested a closed session to consult with legal counsel on pending litigation under Virginia Code §2.2-3711(A)(3); the Board entered and reconvened from closed session and certified compliance with the Code of Virginia. The meeting was continued to Jan. 15 for a joint work session with the School Board.
