Craig County radio project fully funded after $2.958 million in grants and state allocations

County Administrator Dan Collins reported that a COPS grant of $1,000,000 and $1,958,000 allocated via HB1600 were deposited into the county capital-improvement program account, covering the project’s current cost estimate. Collins said site and right-of-way arrangements with the U.S. Forest Service are in hand for a new tower site and that the county will share space on the tower in exchange for providing the site and right-of-way. The board also received a road specification and a notation that two existing tower rental agreements are being negotiated.
The board discussed tower siting and the need for final agreements; the transcript records that negotiations and a closed-session item on tower rental agreements were underway. Collins noted the project is "fully funded" in the CIP and that design and road/tower construction will follow the county's procurement and project schedule.
Next steps: staff to finalize tower agreements, complete design work and report back with loan terms and construction schedule once design and cost estimates are completed.
