Residents press county over Animal Care & Control operations, surgical center access

Jennifer Polsinelli asked for clarity and a timeline for when spay and neuter services will be available, saying Animal Care & Control referred her to an external rescue. Volunteer Heidi Storck said volunteers should not have to personally fund supplies after being refused county-provided items. Resident Kimberly Trinklein, representing the 9th district, said she will continue to appear before the board until complaints about a hostile work environment and alleged inaccuracies in animal transfer records are resolved.
Volunteer Sue Persinger requested transparency about two $500 donations made toward surgery for a dog named Tahoe and asked where the money was spent. Brenda Warner accused the county of using "our money" for Director Horton’s legal fees and demanded that the public have access to the surgical center open house and a public grand opening. Paul Glazar, representing Michigan Cause for Paws (a 501(c)(3)), said volunteers and millage supporters were not invited to the grand opening and said the surgical center was not at full capacity, urging commissioners to inspect operations.
Board members acknowledged the comments; Commissioner Lisa R. Coney said she hopes the complainants’ issues are resolved soon. The comments were recorded under "Audiences" in meeting minutes; no formal board action was taken during the Feb. 17 session on Animal Care & Control operations.
