Mecosta County board signs off on bills, Sheriff purchases and a prosecuting attorney appointment

The Mecosta County Board of Commissioners on July 3 approved a slate of financial and personnel actions, including payment of pre-approved vouchers and supplemental bills, multiple Sheriff’s Office equipment purchases paid from forfeiture funds, and the appointment of a Chief Assistant Prosecutor.

Commissioner William Routley moved to pay pre-approved vouchers totaling $728,179.55 and to approve additional bills totaling $318,330.01; the motion passed by roll call. The board also approved a number of Sheriff’s Office purchases recommended by the Sheriff & Jail Committee and to be paid from the Sheriff’s forfeiture fund: an OSCR360 unit for scene documentation ($19,597), four radar units ($8,300), a handheld mobile fingerprint identification system ($3,130 plus a $500 annual maintenance fee) and twelve portable breath testers ($5,500). Commissioners recorded unanimous or unanimous roll-call support for those purchases where noted.

On personnel, the board approved the Prosecuting Attorney’s request to fill a Chief Assistant Prosecutor vacancy with Monica Janiskee at the 10-year step of the pay grade scale; the motion passed on a 5-0 roll-call vote. The board also accepted the resignation of District 6 incumbent Chris Jane and scheduled a Special Meeting for July 24, 2025 to consider applicants for the seat.

Other approved financial items included splitting an MMRMA net asset distribution among the Building Department, EMS and the General Fund and approving MERS payments from previously budgeted funds. Several smaller budget adjustments and administrative requests were also approved during the meeting.
