Gogebic County board authorizes Wakefield contract for campground infrastructure and signs over fire reimbursements

Gogebic County commissioners voted Oct. 8 to enter a contract with the City of Wakefield to install new infrastructure at the county fairgrounds to support six campground pads, and they authorized signatures on the agreement.
The City of Wakefield provided the board an estimate for labor and materials totaling $6,366. The project will upgrade existing infrastructure and install new services needed for six campground pads. According to the meeting minutes, the Friends of the Fair have agreed to pay the full cost but require the county's approval because the fairgrounds are county-owned. Commissioner Lorenson moved to enter the contract; Commissioner Wood supported the motion and it passed by unanimous voice vote.
In administrator remarks later in the meeting, county staff reported that the county received roughly $14,000 from MMRMA to replace items lost in a fire at the fairgrounds. The checks have been signed over to the Friends of the Fair to reimburse items the volunteer group already replaced, according to the meeting record.
The administrator also told commissioners that work to redesign and blacktop the main courthouse parking lot is scheduled to begin Oct. 13, 2025.
The board took no separate action on the repair reimbursements beyond signing the checks over to the Friends of the Fair. The meeting adjourned at 5:29 p.m.
