Summary
The board authorized a $400,000 loan from a county account to the Land Bank, approved release of liquor tax monies to Northcare Network, cleared budget amendments and claims including a $9,455 invoice, and heard public concern about the Copperwood Mine Project.
At its Sept. 24 meeting the Gogebic County Board of Commissioners approved several financial and administrative measures listed under "Other Matters." The board authorized a $400,000 loan from the DTRF account to the county Land Bank fund and approved releasing liquor tax monies to Northcare Network as recommended in the finance meeting.
Commissioners also approved using dollars from restricted Maintenance and Effort funds to cover FY24/25 obligations and approved the General Fund budget amendments that together total $262,089.55 in matched revenue and expenditure adjustments. Specific amendment line items cited in the motion include increases for Clerk salary, Treasurer salary, buildings and grounds maintenance and capital outlay, and sheriff department salary and medical supplies.
The board voted to pay claims, pre-paids and credit cards, including a $9,455 invoice to WUPPDR; that payment was approved by roll call.
In the public comment period resident Ed Lakner of Ironwood expressed concern about the Copperwood Mine Project and asked why commissioners supported it; the minutes do not record a board response. Other residents raised procedural questions about the timing of the budget public hearing and again urged keeping the 4H Coordinator position full time.
The meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
