The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners on July 9 authorized signatures on the county’s FY24–25 Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness (HMEP) Grant Agreement and approved the FY26 Local Emergency Management Program (LEMP) Work Agreement.
Heidi Derosso, the county’s Emergency Management/911 Coordinator, told commissioners the HMEP program provides financial assistance to first responders and that the county typically receives around $1,500 each year through the grant. Derosso asked the board to authorize the county’s signatures on the HMEP agreement and on the LEMP work agreement, which the county must sign annually to confirm its commitment to maintaining Michigan’s emergency-management standards.
The motions to authorize signatures on the HMEP agreement and to approve the FY26 LEMP Work Agreement were moved and seconded by commissioners and carried by unanimous voice votes. The meeting minutes record the HMEP motion moved by Mr. Lorenson, supported by Mr. Wood, and both the HMEP and LEMP authorizations carried without objection.
The approvals allow the county to accept the grant funds and maintain its Local Emergency Management Program requirements; no additional funding decisions or program changes were made at the meeting.
