At its Nov. 4 meeting the Eastern Upper Peninsula Transportation Authority approved its 2026 meeting calendar and reviewed staff succession planning while taking personnel actions.
Director Pete Paramski presented the proposed 2026 meeting dates; the board unanimously approved the schedule, which runs from Jan. 13, 2026 through Dec. 1, 2026 with monthly meetings and a couple of second-Tuesday exceptions.
Paramski also provided a succession-plan list showing employees' retirement-eligibility dates and explained the Michigan Employees' Retirement System (MERS) rules the board should consider: employees vested under MERS before 2016 may retire with 25 years of service at age 55, while those hired after 2016 generally vest after 10 years and have a normal retirement age of 60. The material was presented for informational purposes to help the board anticipate possible turnover.
On policy review, the board discussed raising the overdraft collection fee to $50 but voted to table the first reading to next month (Motion by Lynda Garlitz; second Brandon Wheeler). The board then moved into closed session at 11:38 a.m. to discuss an employee issue and returned to open session at 12:02 p.m.
After returning to open session the board voted unanimously to approve an administrative wage increase effective Jan. 1, 2026 (Motion by Joe Henne; second Brandon Wheeler). The meeting adjourned at 12:05 p.m.
