The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners approved a slate of administrative and financial actions at its Jan. 28 regular meeting, adopting scholarship awards, policy updates and a multi-year lease for county office space.
The board voted unanimously to accept a recommendation from the Dr. Steven Fortunato Dal Pra & Colleen Dal Pra Educational Award Committee to award 50% of each graduating class a $4,000 scholarship for the 2026–2027 academic year. The administrator noted the scholarships are awarded under the county's name and therefore require board approval.
Commissioners also approved several internal policy changes. The board adopted an updated credit-card policy that adds a required signature page for all county cardholders. Separately, the board adopted a proposed vehicle policy and authorized appropriate signatures.
In a separate motion, commissioners approved an eight-year lease between Gogebic County and the Western U.P. Health Board covering the period June 1, 2025, through June 30, 2033, and authorized officials to sign the agreement.
Routine financial business proceeded without controversy: the board approved the trial balance/cash and investment balance report and the General Fund revenue and expenditure control report as presented and voted to pay claims and pre-paids as submitted.

Why it matters: The scholarship commitment is a recurring local education grant program funded under the county's name and requires board oversight. Policy updates (credit card and vehicle) affect county administrative controls for spending and fleet operations. The Western U.P. Health Board lease secures office space for a regional public-health partner through mid-2033.
The meeting adjourned at 5:12 p.m.; no public comments were offered.
