Administrator reports new passport photo service, $1 property sale offer and small HVAC proposal; commissioners press MDOT and Social Security hours

During administrative updates at the Jan. 14 meeting, the county administrator reported that a passport-photo machine had been purchased and the service is now available at the Register of Deeds; the administrator said the General Appropriations Act will need amendment to reflect the charge for the service.
The administrator also reported that the City of Ironwood has agreed to sell the county property located behind the HOPE Animal Shelter for $1.00. A Health Department proposal for a $2,000 HVAC project was presented and the administrator reported the cost is within the current budget.
Commissioner Yon raised concerns about a lack of signage and lighting at the four-way stop where M-28 meets U.S. 2 in Wakefield and asked whether the Road Commission could reiterate the danger to MDOT. Commissioner Matonich reported the Social Security office in Ironwood is currently open only Monday through Wednesday for a short time; City Clerk Jennifer Jacobson had written to U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin seeking full-time hours. The board voted unanimously for the clerk to send a similar letter to the county's representatives.
Treasurer Lisa Hewitt commented that the General Appropriations Act should be amended to reflect the monthly meeting change.
