EUPTA board adopts Local Procurement Policy, holds closed session and raises deckhand pay

The EUPTA board adopted a Local Procurement Policy, moved into a closed session to discuss an employee and union matter, later returned to open session and unanimously approved increasing the part-time deckhand wage to equal full-time deckhand pay (no captain papers).
At its May 6 meeting the Eastern Upper Peninsula Transportation Authority board adopted a Local Procurement Policy, held a closed session on employee and union issues and approved a wage increase for part-time deckhands.
Trustee Lynda Garlitz moved to accept the Local Procurement Policy as presented; Trustee Jeff Middlestead seconded the motion and the board carried it. Following that vote, the board voted unanimously to go into closed session at 11:10 a.m. to discuss an employee and union matter; a five-minute recess preceded the closed session. The board returned to open session at 11:45 a.m.
After returning to open session, Trustee Jeff Middlestead moved to increase the part-time deckhand wage to match a full-time deckhand wage for positions without captains' papers; Trustee Joe Henne seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The board also approved the April 8 regular and closed session meeting minutes earlier in the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 11:50 a.m. Recording Secretary Kathy Neubert certified the minutes.
