Catherine Bell of the Six Mile Lake Association offered a public 'shout out' to county staff. Richard Wright of Boyne City and Mark Warner of Hayes Township described positive experiences with the Charlevoix County Veterans Affairs Office. Tom Breaky, a Veterans Affairs Committee member from East Jordan, said he supports the employees and their work. Marion Township resident and Coast Guard veteran Tom Conlon suggested the county hire a Veterans Service Officer (VSO) who will follow up with every person who comes into the office.
County Administrator Kevin Shepard told the board that statutory requirements apply to hiring a VSO and that the Veterans Affairs Committee is required to be involved in the process. Commissioners did not take formal action on the suggestion at the Dec. 10 meeting; the discussion is on the record for future personnel or committee steps.
