At its Aug. 5, 2025 meeting, the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners’ Personnel/Equalization and Apportionment/Transportation/Health and Social Services Committee approved multiple personnel changes, including a 2% wage increase for non-union staff and several schedule changes to address coverage needs.
The committee approved the updated Non-Union Chippewa County pay scale, which implements a previously authorized 2% wage increase and takes effect Oct. 1, 2025. Commissioner Scott Shackleton moved the pay-scale motion and Commissioner Justin Knepper supported it; the motion carried on a voice vote.
The committee also authorized the Sheriff's Office request to reclassify the Jail ICE Liaison position to allow up to 79 hours biweekly to accommodate duties that include scheduling courthouse and county building security. Commissioner Justin Knepper moved the action; Commissioner Shackleton supported it, and the motion carried on a voice vote.
Shelter Manager Holly Henderson asked the committee to approve increased hours for two part-time Animal Shelter employees to address a higher intake of animals. The committee approved adding 6–8 hours per week for the veterinary technician to support Dr. Ayers (funded from the Animal Shelter millage special fund) and increasing a shelter attendant by 10 hours per week to a total of 32 hours; Commissioner Knepper moved the motion and Commissioner Shackleton supported it.
To address building maintenance coverage, the committee authorized creating a 58-hour janitorial attendee position (scheduled as up to 29 hours per week) at $16.78 per hour and approved canceling the Hunt's Maintenance and Service cleaning contract, concluding the contract did not meet the county’s afternoon needs. Commissioner Shackleton moved and Commissioner Knepper supported the motion; the vote carried on a voice vote.
The committee recorded no public comment on these items. The committee adjourned at 10:43 a.m.
What happens next: The approved pay scale is effective Oct. 1, 2025. County Administration will implement the personnel changes and follow up on staffing for afternoon janitorial coverage.
