Lisa Clavier, representing Charlevoix County Child Abuse Counsel, presented a proposal Jan. 28 to place life-jacket loaner stations at county beaches. Clavier said her nonprofit would supply signage, storage containers and life jackets in a range of sizes and estimated the cost at about $1,500. She said her organization would donate the stations to the county and that, as a governmental entity, liability would transfer to the County and its governmental immunity would apply.
Clavier left informational materials with the county clerk for distribution to commissioners. The Board took the information as presented; no motion, vote or commitment of county funds appears in the meeting record.
If the board decides to accept donated life-jacket stations, staff or counsel may need to review liability and maintenance arrangements before implementation.
