The Charlevoix County Board of Commissioners unanimously authorized the sheriff’s department Jan. 28 to apply for the Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant, which the Department of Justice administers and will reimburse up to 50% of qualifying bulletproof vest purchases for this year and next.
Commissioner Annemarie Conway moved and Commissioner Scott Hankins seconded the resolution (26-013); the motion carried on a 4-0 roll call vote. The Internal Government Committee recommended the application to the full board.
The meeting record does not specify the number of vests the department plans to purchase or the total anticipated reimbursement amount. The board authorized the chairman to sign any documents necessary to apply for the funds.
