The board considered competing nominations following a statement from Commissioner Bob Roelofs that a candidate’s name had been reported incorrectly in the Record Patriot. Chair Art Jeannot told the board he had contacted the newspaper and it issued a correction. The motion to appoint Len Mathieu carried on a roll-call vote: Ayes — Art Jeannot, Tim Markey, Rhonda Nye, Gary Sauer and Christina Trigg; Nays — Bob Roelofs.
Earlier in the discussion Commissioner Roelofs moved to appoint Rose Roelofs to the vacancy; County Clerk Tammy Bowers noted that the board had to dispose of an earlier motion first. The board debated and then voted for Mathieu.
The newly appointed commissioner will be recommended by the ad hoc committee to take the seat; details on swearing-in or the effective start date were not specified in the meeting minutes.
