Chippewa County Central Dispatch elects Postma chair, Traynor vice chair and approves expenditures

The Chippewa County Central Dispatch Board unanimously elected Greg Postma as board chair and County Commissioner Jim Traynor as vice chair during a meeting on April 29, 2025 at the Sault Ste Marie Police Department. The board also approved the meeting agenda, past minutes and the expenditures report.

The meeting opened at 16:02 and moved quickly through procedural business. Sheriff Mike Bitnar moved to approve the agenda; Bob Marchand supported the motion and the board approved it unanimously. Later in the meeting Sault Ste. Marie Police Chief Wes Bierling nominated Greg Postma for chair; MSP Lt. Robert Allen supported the nomination and the board elected Postma by roll call. Bay Mills Indian Community Police Chief Ronald Carrick nominated Jim Traynor for vice chair; Sheriff Bitnar supported that nomination and Traynor was elected unanimously.

Board members addressed outstanding administrative items from previous meetings. Because the Dec. 18, 2024 meeting lacked a quorum, the earlier minutes were presented for approval; Ron Carrick moved to approve and Mike Bitnar supported the motion, which carried. The board reviewed monthly revenue and expenditure statements; Tom McKee moved to approve the expenditures and Mike Bitnar supported the motion, which passed on a vote.

In another procedural action the board voted to forward two Michigan Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) agreements — including a maintenance agreement for the Sugar Island tower — to the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners for review and signature. Jim Traynor moved to forward the agreements and Ray Baker seconded; the motion was approved.

The meeting adjourned at 16:46 after a motion by Sheriff Bitnar supported by Fire Chief Ed Miller.
