Ontonagon commissioners approve bills, payroll, UPCAP plan and add wage-setting to special budget meeting agenda

Ontonagon County commissioners on July 15 approved payment of bills, prepaid disbursements and payroll and took several routine but budget-relevant actions, then met in a special budget session July 17 to review the current-year budget and add an item to set wages for department heads, elected officials and nonunion hourly employees.
At the regular meeting the board approved a bill run totaling $130,762.47, prepaid bills of $155,717.27 and payroll disbursements totaling $206,007.26. The minutes record fund-by-fund breakdowns for the bill run and prepaids; the board approved the motion by a recorded vote. The minutes also show approvals for cash advances to Lisa Walters and Cayla Karttunen and an MIDC independent contractor agreement with Diane Kay, among other routine agreements.
The board also unanimously adopted Resolution 2025-06 to acknowledge and support the U.P. Area Agency on Aging (UPCAP) 2026 Annual Implementation Plan for services to older adults across the Upper Peninsula; the resolution will be submitted to UPCAP and placed on file to meet planning and compliance requirements.
At a special budget meeting July 17 commissioners reconvened to review the current-year budget. Commissioner Store was absent; by motion the board agreed to add agenda item 9a to set wages for department heads, elected officials and nonunion hourly employees. No public comment was recorded at the special session and the minutes excerpt indicates the budget review was underway.
