County administrator and conservation district report Transfer Station changes and Stony Creek Nature Preserve opening

County Administrator Tracy Byard told commissioners on Nov. 13, 2025, that excavation work at the Transfer Station is complete and that the county has contacted a contractor (Crystal Clean) to remove residual oil from a county-owned container, with a quote pending. Chairperson Robert Walker relayed a resident’s experience that the new Transfer Station scale had resulted in lower charges and improved maneuverability.
In public comment, Laura Ackerman, District Manager of the Oceana Conservation District, thanked the board for support of the Conservation District and the Household Hazardous Waste Program and announced that the Stony Creek Nature Preserve—largely funded by ARPA—has opened and will host educational opportunities for county youth.
Additional department updates included Oceana Parks and Recreation reporting that Marshville dam work is complete, concrete sidewalks are being installed at Cedar Point, and park usage continues to grow.
