Oceana County approves claims, notes transfer-station contract and facility updates

Oceana County commissioners on Oct. 9 approved payment of accounts payable and release of funds and received administrative updates on the Transfer Station and county facilities.
The Board adopted Motion #2025-121, voting to authorize payments and the release of funds. The printed grand total for board-level disbursements was $722,981.83; the meeting record also lists detailed claims totaling $280,448.29 across special revenue and general funds. Notable line items included Indigent Defense expenditures of $80,459.44 and a final payment to Asis Boats USA LLC of $104,429.50 for a Marine Law boat.
Chairperson Robert Walker reported a signed contract with American Classic to operate the Oceana County Transfer Station; Administrator Tracy Byard later told the committee that True Stream has been installed at the Transfer Station, the state certified the station scale, and staff are completing remaining scale-house work. The minutes show the Board agreed to proceed with certain FY2026 budget follow-up items: allocating $4,000 to District Court to locate garnishment information, approving additional magistrate clerk hours and receipt-clerk coverage, soliciting RFPs for grounds/lawn and snow removal, and adjusting assistant prosecutor on-call pay per the prosecutor's recommendation. Several requests (tile replacement, sheriff trailer wrap, and wage increases for certain elected officials) were not acted upon.
The meeting also recognized a donation from the Lassi Group to the Oceana County Animal Shelter (an outdoor kennel area) and noted that outgoing DHHS board member Al Doctor will step down after 10 years of service.
