District reports IDEM grant activity, schedules Medication Collection Day and Holiday Lights recycling

At the Oct. 20 meeting of the Dubois County Solid Waste Management District, District Director Carla Striegel-Winner updated the board on several grant programs and scheduled community events.
Striegel-Winner said the IDEM Waste Tire Grant 2025 is in process and being used, and the IDEM Community Recycling Grant Program (CRGP) is also in process. She reported that IDEM SWIFR pass-through grants are expected to be released in mid-December and that the district submitted a letter of intent for those funds on Oct. 14, 2025; the SWIFR funds would support local material-management planning if awarded.
Striegel-Winner also reminded the board of near-term and recent activities: Medication Collection Day on Oct. 25; the AISWMD annual meeting (virtual) on Oct. 29; HHW Task Force BBP training on Nov. 5; Holiday Lights recycling beginning Nov. 21 through mid-January; and recent events including the Circular Indiana conference and a Patoka clean-up that drew 125 volunteers on Sept. 27.
No formal votes or grant-acceptance motions were recorded at this meeting; updates were informational. The board will receive any grant award documents and related action items in future packets if awards are made.
