Dubois County pledges up to $421,000 over three years for federal bridge railing grant

County Engineer Levi Leffert told the Council he will apply for a federal Bridge Railing Safety Improvement grant to update guardrail treatments on approximately 50 to 60 bridges. The grant requires a local financial commitment; Leffert said, “The estimated financial commitment would be $421,000 spread over 3 years.”
On a motion by Ryan Craig, seconded by Meredith Voegerl, the Council approved the Financial Letter of Commitment and authorized the Council President to sign. The motion carried unanimously.
Council members said the county will use a mix of Cum Bridge and/or LIT-ED funds to meet the local match. The commitment is an approval to pursue the grant application and provide the specified local support; final project scope and funding draws will follow grant award and project scheduling.
